Recall reports

An effort to recall two of the seven members of the Flint City School District Board of Education in Michigan did not go to a vote in 2022. Board President Joyce Ellis-McNeal and Treasurer Laura MacIntyre were named in the recall petitions. The Genesee County Election Commission rejected the petitions on August 12, 2022, due to unclear language.[1][2]

Ellis-McNeal was also named in a recall petition in May 2022. That petition was also rejected by the county election commission for unclear language.[3]

Both recall petitions had the same language: "on Sept. 8, 2021, Anita Steward filed a complaint in the circuit court for the County of Genesee against (each board member)." The language referenced a lawsuit Steward filed against the district on September 8, 2021. The lawsuit alleged racial discrimination and board policy violations, according to MLive.com.[1]
