Joyce Green (District of Columbia)
Joyce Hens Green is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Green joined the court on May 11, 1979, after a nomination by President Jimmy Carter (D). She assumed senior status on July 1, 1995.[1]
Green served on the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court from May 1988 to May 1995. She served as the presiding judge of the court from May 1990 until the end of her term.[2]
Early life and education
Green was born in New York, New York in 1928. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 1949. She earned a J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 1951.[1]

Judicial career
Green was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by President Jimmy Carter on March 6, 1979, to a seat vacated by Judge Howard Corcoran. Green was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 10, 1979, and she received her commission the next day. From 1988 to 1995, Green was a judge on the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, serving as presiding judge of that court from 1990 to 1995. Green elected to take senior status beginning on July 1, 1995. She was succeeded in this position by Judge Henry Kennedy.[1]
