Three of the five seats on the Floyd County Board of Education were up for general election on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on May 24, 2016. Melinda Strickland defeated Keith Hester in the District 2 Republican primary. Strickland won without opposition in the general election. District 3 incumbent Jay Shell defeated challenger David Tucker in the Republican primary. Shell won without opposition in the general election. District 5 incumbent George Bevels (D) was defeated by primary challenger Joyce Mink (D). Mink lost to Republican candidate Melinda Jeffers in the general election.[1]
