Juan Carlos Benitez was elected by party leadership to serve as chair of the Guam Republican Party on February 3, 2021.[1]
He was an at-large delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Guam. All nine of Guam's delegates in 2016 were unpledged.
Delegate rules
At-large delegates from Guam were elected at a territorial convention on March 12, 2016. All Guam delegates were unpledged, meaning they were not bound by local party regulations to vote for any specific candidate at the Republican National Convention.
Guam territorial convention
At the Guam Republican territorial convention, six delegates were elected to the national convention. At the time of their election, five of the delegates had not publicly announced which candidate they intended to support, while one delegate—Guam Governor Eddie Calvo—announced his intentions to support Ted Cruz.[2]
