The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 5, 2015. The city held the special election to fill the District 7 seat of former council member Jorge Vera, who was recalled from office on November 4, 2014, following his arrest for drug possession on August 1, 2014. In the general election, candidates included Juan Chavez, Hector Lee Patiño, Arturo Pantoja, Daniel "Danny" Reyes, Guillermo (Memo) Castro and George J. Altgelt.
