Mississippi: Judge Thomas H. Bates has decided to retire from the Forrest County Justice Court on December 31, 2011. He simply stated, "I've gotten older now, and decided to go ahead and retire."[1] Bates, who is 70 years old, began serving on the court part-time in 1982. He also worked as a private practice lawyer until 2006, specializing in bankruptcy law. After retirement, he said that he may continue to work part-time as a lawyer or for a court program.[1]
