Judge Cullen to retire
September 28, 2010
Kingston, New Hampshire: Judge R. Laurence Cullen will retire from the Exeter District Court in New Hampshire on October 31, 2010. After serving as a judge for 25 years, the 70-year-old has reached the age of mandatory retirement.
Regarding his views of those he judge, Cullen said, "After 25 years I hope that I treated people as well as I could. Many of the people in court you have to be aware it's the worst day of their life. People we're dealing with are not usually evil people we're just dealing with people who've made mistakes, or done something they shouldn't have done." Stratham Police Department prosecutor Bill Hart said that Cullen "treated people with common dignity".
After retirement, Cullen will continue to serve on the Rules Committee and attend quarterly meetings. For budgetary reasons, his position will be filled by full-time and part-time judges from across the state.[1]
