ST. CLAIR, Missouri: The day before longtime St. Clair Municipal Court Judge Nick Gasaway's 75th birthday he turned in his resignation. In a letter to Mayor Blum, Gasaway wrote, "Please accept my formal resignation as municipal judge effective Nov. 16, 2011, my 75th birthday, it has been a pleasure to serve the city for the past 15-plus years."[1]

He received kind words and recognition at a board of alderman's meeting on the 21st.

"Judge Gasaway has done a fantastic job for our community, no one has ever said anything to me otherwise. Everyone respects him. He treated everyone fairly. That says a lot."[1] -Mayor Ron Blum

Until next April's election, Judge A. David Arand will fill Gasaway's position.

"Due to the mandatory retirement of the Honorable Nick Gasaway, the Honorable A. David Arand is assigned to serve as municipal judge for the city of St. Clair, Mo., beginning November 17, 2011, and continuing until such time as a permanent replacement is selected by election process in April 2012."[1] -Order issued by presiding Judge Gael D. Wood
