Judge Ishii announces move to senior status

California: Earlier this month, Judge Anthony Ishii informed President Barack Obama he will take senior status next October. Ishii has been a judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California since 1997, when he was nominated by Bill Clinton. Though the judge will semi-retire, he still plans to work a full caseload.[1]
Currently, the Eastern District Court has no vacancies, with all six posts filled. Given the timing of Ishii's retirement, two weeks before the presidential election, it is likely that an appointee could be stalled in the U.S. Senate during the political season.[1]
