Judge John Ferrara inducted to Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
February 15, 2012
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts: John S. Ferrara is the newest Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. A formal induction ceremony, officiated by Chief Justice Barbara Rouse, was held on Wednesday. In attendance were active and retired judges from several federal and state courts as well as a large group of family members. During the ceremony Ferrara thanked his wife and two boys and stated that he’s been fortunate to have “a very satisfying 28-year career” and looks forward to “joining the ranks” of the Superior Court judges.[1]
Justice Ferrara was appointed to the position by Governor Deval Patrick on November 22, 2011 and was confirmed by the Governor's Council a month later on December 21. He replaced retired Judge C. Brian McDonald.[2][3]
Ferrara practiced civil and criminal law at Dalsey, Ferrara and Albano in Springfield, MA for 27 years prior to his judicial appointment in 2011. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1975 and his J.D. degree from the Western New England School of Law in 1983.[2]
