Judge Lewis retiring
July 5, 2010
New Lexington, Ohio: Judge Linton D. Lewis retired from the Perry County Court of Common Pleas on July 5, 2010. He is known for a 1994 ruling that declared education to be a fundamental right in Ohio and declared the state system of funding schools unconstitutional. Of the ruling, he said, "The fact that it helped a lot of kids, and will in the future, makes me proud."
Lewis first became a Perry County Court judge in 1983. In 1990, he became a Common Pleas judge. The 57-year-old has now decided that he has judged for long enough and wants to retire to pursue other activities. Tina M. Boyer was elected in November of 2008 to replace him.[1]
