Judge Murphy retained, retires
November 17, 2010
Lincoln, Nebraska: Despite being re-elected to a new term on November 2nd, Judge John P. Murphy has decided to leave Nebraska's District 11, where he has served since 1983. Two weeks after winning the election, Murphy announced that he will retire on August 1, 2011.
Murphy's reasons for retirement are unknown. The 63-year-old judge had been the target of an ethics complaint this year based on his decision to recuse himself from hearing an ethics complaint against another area judge. However, State Sen. Ernie Chambers, who made the complaint against Murphy, commended the judge, saying, "If he goes through with his retirement, it will be a loss to the judiciary and to the state, in my opinion."[1]
