Judge Receives Montgomery County Bar Association Jurist Award

Rockville, Maryland: A county circuit judge has received the 22nd Annual Jurist Award from the Bar Association of Montgomery County.[1]

Judge Marielsa A. Bernard, of the Montgomery County Circuit, earned the award, “for upholding the highest standards of the Judiciary and the legal profession.” She was given the award on May 18, 2012 at the 118th Annual Meeting and Law Day, hosted by the Bar Association.[1]

Judge Bernard has been very active in her career. After being appointed to the Montgomery County District Court in October of 1998, she went on to the Montgomery County Circuit Court in March 2002. A member of several judicial commissions and committees, Judge Bernard currently serves on the Juvenile Drug Court Initiative Committee for the Montgomery County District Court, as well as the Judiciary’s Public Trust and Confidence Implementation Committee.[1]

In recognition for her work as chair of the Montgomery County’s Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, Judge Bernard received the 2011 Inspiring Leader Award from the Family Justice Center. She also been named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record, in addition to being inducted into the Daily Record’s Circle of Excellence for Maryland’s Top 100 Women.[1]

Judge Bernard attended Loyola College, completing her undergraduate career and went on to receive her Juris Doctorate from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America.[1]
