The Judicial Update

October 6, 2011

California: Judge Oliver Wanger, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, spent his last day as a federal judge at the courthouse in Fresno on Saturday, September 30. This isn't the end of his career though, as the 70 year old senior judge began work as a private lawyer on the following Monday. Judge Wanger is now a partner at the newly created law firm Wanger Jones Helsley and says he expects to be addressed as "Ollie Wanger" instead of Judge Wanger. Among the reasons cited for his resignation from the court, Judge Wagner listed Congress's refusal to add judges to the district court despite the growing caseload. Judge Wagner, who is well known for his immense work ethic on the court, has shown no signs of slowing down and instead stated his plans as follows, "I am going to be a lawyer. I'm going back to the other side of the bench."[1]
