Ashmann-Gerst was appointed to the court by Governor Gray Davis in December 2001 and retained by voters in 2002 and 2010. Her current term ends January 2, 2023.[1][2]
Biography
Education
Ashmann-Gerst received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1965. She worked as a deputy probation officer while attending Whittier Law School and earned her J.D. in 1972, graduating magna cum laude.[1]
Career
Ashmann-Gerst began her legal career with the state attorney general's office in Los Angeles. In 1976, she left that office to become special counsel to City Attorney Burt Pines. She joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in 1979, where she was an executive assistant U.S. attorney until Governor Jerry Brown appointed her to the Los Angeles Municipal Court in 1981. In 1986, she was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor George Deukmejian. Governor Gray Davis appointed Ashmann-Gerst to the California Second District Court of Appeal in December 2001.[1]
