- We need a strong voice for Our Way of Life. One that aligns with the moral and ethical values that have been tilled into the very land that provides for our prosperity. A leader, whose business experience and understanding of fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities helps to build strength and stability in the county now, and in the years to come. I bring these skillsets to the Commissioner position as a candidate.
- Responsible Succession for County Offices. The majority of our department heads are very experienced and have built strong departments and served us well. How are we prioritizing the stability of their services into the future, as these wisdom holders retire and complete their service? How are we preparing for the future through responsible succession planning? We currently have, many overworked and often understaffed departments, with no time to address this critical point. Where is the capture/transfer of knowledge, experience and wisdom that has been accumulated over many years of service? We need to open this conversation, begin exploring innovative and creative problem solving strategies, and prioritize planning.
- It is difficult to build consensus or cohesiveness within the county when information is vague, difficult to access or non-existent. How do we know our resources are being responsibly stewarded when the majority of this information isn’t available or easily accessible? As a smaller county within the state, with limited resources, we need to spend prudently and with fiscal responsibility. That does not mean we continue doing it the way it’s always been done (or not done). Change requires courage, determination, and a commitment to find a new way. I would welcome the opportunity to identify and steward federal and state funding that is designed to help small rural counties create and provide what our urban siblings consider necessities. Add
Providing the best services to our county residents, whether through health services or county services. I want to see healthy communities working together for the benefit of all of us.
2. Compassion: Understanding the challenges and suffering of others and wanting to alleviate it, compassion is a human quality that converts knowledge to wisdom. Enabling elected officials to make informed decisions that benefit the community.
3. Honesty: Telling the truth, (even when difficult), is essential for building trust with constituents. Honest leaders are transparent and accountable for their actions.
4. Empathy: The ability to listen carefully to others, understand concerns, and consider diverse perspectives is crucial for effective leadership. Empathetic leaders foster strong relationships with their community.
5. Courage: The willingness to make tough decisions, even in the face of opposition, is a hallmark of courageous leaders. They prioritize the greater good over personal interests.
6. Pragmatism: A balance between idealism and realism, pragmatism enables elected officials to navigate complex issues and find solutions that benefit their communities.
7. Effective Communication: Clear, diverse, and regular communication with the community is vital for building trust and understanding. Leaders should be accessible and willing to listen.
