Julian Carroll
Julian Carroll (Democratic Party) was a member of the Kentucky State Senate, representing District 7. He assumed office in 2005. He left office on January 1, 2021.
Carroll (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Kentucky State Senate to represent District 7. He won in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Carroll served as Senate minority whip from 2015 to 2017. He was removed from his leadership position by the Senate Democratic caucus on July 23, 2017, after Spectrum News Pure Politics reported on allegations that he propositioned a man for sex in 2005.[1] To read more about the allegation, click here.
Carroll served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1962 to 1971, acting as speaker of the House from 1968 to 1971. He then served as Lieutenant Governor for the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1972 to 1975. Carroll served as governor from 1975 to 1979.[2]
Biography
Carroll earned his B.A. from the University of Kentucky and his L.L.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. His professional experience includes serving as Lay Minister for the First Assembly of God.

Carroll won re-election in the 2012 election for Kentucky State Senate District 7. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 22, 2012, and defeated Frank Haynes (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[6][7]

Noteworthy events
Removal from leadership position following accusations of sexual misconduct (2017)
On July 23, 2017, Carroll was removed from his position as majority whip after Spectrum News Pure Politics reported on allegations that he propositioned a man for sex in 2005. The man said he was propositioned by Carroll when he sought Carroll's help to get into art school, and that the Kentucky State Police did not investigate the matter when he reported it in 2005.[1] In addition to his removal as majority whip, the Senate Democratic caucus asked Carroll to resign, which he declined.[10][11]
