The first scheduled pre-election report filing deadline was October 6, 2014. If candidates raised or spent less than $1,000 during the 2013 and 2014 calendar years, they had to file Form 470 at that time. If candidates raised or spent more during that time, they had to file Form 460 by the pre-election report filing deadline.[2]

Candidates required to file Form 460 also had to file a second pre-election report on October 23, 2014, and they had to file termination reports by December 31, 2014. If a termination report was not filed, candidates had to file a semi-annual report by February 2, 2015.[2]

Campaign themes

2014

Farnbach published her platform on her campaign website:

WHY RUN?
  • Because we need a course correction, to swing the pendulum back towards a focus on students.
  • Because common sense is too rare, and zero-tolerance is too common.
  • Because our current board is too passive. We need courageous leadership!
  • Because they are WAY too friendly with the current administration, which means oversight is compromised. We need watch dogs on duty, not lap dogs!
  • Because if we don't take charge of the culture in our schools, the culture will take charge of us.
  • Because after health and safety, there is NOTHING more important than the education of our children. They are the next generation of American leaders!
  • Because my education and personality make me uniquely suited to fill the role. My brain works as a systems analyst, I know what it takes to preserve freedom, and I speak my mind.
  • Because politicians and diapers should both be changed often, and for the same reason.
  • Because if a well-informed, well-meaning mom can't get elected to the lowest public office in the land, we have a big problem on our hands.
  • Because honesty, integrity and hard work should still count for something.
  • Because teachers haven't had a raise in the past seven years, but administration has added new layers to the organizational chart, with board approval! Until principals and district-level administrators work as many hours a day as teachers do, they'll just have to deal with being "overworked." Maybe a little empathy would improve things around here!
  • Because we need to communicate better and rebuild relationships of trust with parents.
  • Because "If not me, who? If not now, when?"
  • Because we've been Taxed Enough Already!
  • Because We the People need to push back and stand our ground!!
  • Because George Washington and John Adams and Thomas Jefferson and James Madison and Abraham Lincoln have already proved that one person CAN make a difference.
  • Because Margaret Mead was right when she said, "Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
  • Because Ralph Waldo Emerson was also right when he said,

"To laugh often and much,
to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty,
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived,
this is to have succeeded."[4]
