Campaign website

Fortier's campaign website stated the following:

Healthcare

Our country needs to start moving toward Universal Health Care. With the rising cost of insurance, medical services, and prescriptions, many families are an emergency away from choosing between healthcare or a roof over their heads.

My Plan

Universal healthcare, however, is not an overnight fix. I will research how other countries have implemented universal healthcare and study what aspects might work in the US. I will then work with other members of congress to determine how to provide Americans the best healthcare they not only need but deserve.

Good Jobs

Julie will work with community leaders to bring jobs to the district.

My Plan

By working with community leaders throughout Southern Illinois, who know what works in their cities and towns, Julie will work hard to bring in businesses that will make sense in a region.

Education

A good public education provides students the foundation they need to be successful at any job or additional degree they work toward after graduating high school.

My Plan

All students, regardless of the community in which they live, should have access to a quality public education, and I will work to ensure that those needs are met throughout District 12.

Democracy

In a turbulent time where voting and constitutional rights are being threatened, I will work to ensure that both are kept intact for all of the constituents in District 12.

My Plan

Every voice, regardless of their race, religion, gender, and political affiliation has a right to be heard.

Rural Support

Farmers in Southern Illinois, and throughout the United States deserve competitive markets and fair-trade agreements for their crops and livestock. I will work to ensure that farmers are provided with that opportunity.

My Plan

Broadband internet access is fundamental to running businesses and farms. It's also essential for students' schoolwork. I will work to ensure that broadband reaches the rural population to give them the same access as seen in Urban communities.

Veterans' Affairs

Being a veteran myself, caring for veterans who selflessly served should be paramount to our society. Privatizing the VA will only put money in the pockets of those who run it and do a disservice to the veterans who depend on it.

My Plan

I will work to ensure that the VA is not privatized and can continue to do what it was meant to do: serve the veterans who have given so much to our country.
