An election to recall Treasurer Julie Giles did not go to a vote in Limerick, Maine. The recall election was scheduled to take place on September 19, 2025. Cumberland County Superior Court Justice Darcie McElwee ruled that the election would violate state law, which allows officials to be targeted for recall only if they have been convicted of a crime that victimizes the town they serve.[1]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized by members of the town's select board, who said that Giles had been too "incompetent to perform necessary duties of the office."[1]
Recall opponents
Portland Press Herald reported that Giles' attorney, Scott Dolan, said the board targeted his client over a difference in philosophy on how the town should manage its money.[1]
