|Divisiveness needs to be met with civility, and wedge issues need to be approached with the core skills of critical thinking and cooperative problem-solving. Politicians need to be reminded that the hard work of public service is a privilege and is not guaranteed by PAC dollars or special interests. And so, Julie decided to run because she has seen her community pay the ultimate price of divisive leadership; East Texas ranks among the highest in uninsured residents, the highest in suicide rates and infant mortality rates, and the lowest in public education funds.
