Melendez is a native Floridian. He was born on Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida, on December 30, 1977.[1]

Melendez ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Florida's 9th District. Melendez sought the nomination on the Republican ticket.[2] The primary elections were held on August 14, 2012. Melendez was defeated by Todd Long in the Republican primary on August 14, 2012.[3]
