Justin Berry is a full time police officer with over 12 years of service in Austin, TX. Justin has a Masters of Science in Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University. Justin is a staunch advocate for public safety. Focused on keeping taxes low by ensuring the State of Texas is efficient and responsible with how it spends tax revenue. Seeking traffic congestion relief through sound infrastructure planning. Lastly, Justin is focus on ensuring out youth are set up for success in life by having safe and successful schools that focus on scholastic and vocational trade opportunities.
Justin Berry is personally passionate about recidivism reduction programs. Having seen first hand the cycle of criminality through the lens of a police officer, Justin understands that by setting people up for success in life, post incarceration, the cycle can be broken. Once broken, it will positively impact future generations. Many reoccurring offenders, often lack the knowledge or skills for another form of making a living. By providing vocational skills trades, coupled with a realistic support network many offenders can be reformed and become productive and law abiding members or our community.
President Reagan is a leading influence in Justin's political outlook. By focusing on treating people like people, we must ensure we have a "big tent" that welcomes diverse thought through civil conversation. Today's political world is plagued with deep division, thus weakening our very core as a nation. President Reagan said it best, "Unity does not require unanimity of thought." In a time were unity is needed the most, Justin shares many values and perspectives as President Reagan, and understands the power in unity.
As a police officer, Justin has seen first hand the negative results of poorly implemented policy. As a police officer, their job is to find solutions to the problems they have been called to address. Officers focus on the problem at hand, they do not debate or argue with partisan affiliation with the caller (constituent), instead the listen, plan, and act. It is these principles that Justin embodies and would serve well as his time as a highly decorated public servant.
Justin would like to positively impact as many lives as possible. Justin truly believes that by improving the lives of today, will improve the lives to come.
The first historical event Justin recalls was when he was around 7 years old when there was a large gas explosion in Brenham, TX.
Justin entered to work force as a part-time clerk for Chick-fil-a. Justin worked at Chick-fil-a for over 3 years until he left for college at Sam Houston State University.
No, I do believe having life experience is vital to being a sound and productive legislator.
The greatest challenges our great state will face over the next decade, will be recovering from the economic damage done by the Coronavirus pandemic coupled with ensuring police reform efforts are made with public safety at the foremost thought while ensuring the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are protected.
