Additionally, consumers will be protected by requiring insurance companies to disclose the cost they pay for procedures for all patients. This is arguably the most crucial time for economic growth in
  • Now more than ever we need members of congress to work together in order for successful legislation. Without bi-partisanship, we will achieve nothing and create more hostility. I have built my career on working with people who disagree with me. We need people who understand what is going on in every day America while working across the aisle. I will work across the aisle while maintaining conservative principals.

Campaign website

Burau's campaign website stated the following:

Safer Communities

Rising crime is a tremendous concern to all Chicagoland area residents. Calls and actions by Democrats to defund the police have led to the rise of criminal activities and organizations, while Democrats stand to the side and let violence run rampant in our streets.

My opponent, State Representative Delia Ramirez was a co-sponsor of the Safe-T Act (HB3653), which as of January 1st 2023 will eliminate cash bail in Illinois, allow criminals to be released and cost police departments millions of dollars. Even the most progressive cities like San Francisco have realized the negative affects of this type of legislation. Now is not the time for more pro criminal Representatives.

I will:

  • Ensure the brave men and women in our law enforcement have the resources they need to keep Americans safe.
  • Advocate for proper training and background checks for our police officers to ensure that the best of the best are protecting our communities so that Americans can have the utmost confidence and trust in their police forces.

Immigration

Immigration is at the core of our country’s soul. Immigration to the United States is one of the most valuable things in the world, as we are a beacon of hope and prosperity to millions. Our immigration system has been neglected by politicians on both sides who would rather have the issue to campaign on rather than a solution.

The entire immigration process has few resources and unnecessary, confusing regulations that lead to families having to wait fifteen or twenty years to receive citizenship. In order to incentivize legal immigration and curb illegal immigration, we must make the process accessible and efficient.

However, this does not mean open borders like the Democrats want. For the security of our country, we must know who is in the United States. This way, we can also ensure that immigrants cannot be extorted and taken advantage of for cheap labor, something that Democrats neglect to mention when discussing their open borders policies. Furthermore, legal immigration allows for immigrants to pay into our tax system and receive the benefits of being in America legally, which is what the vast majority of immigrants desire when they come to our great nation.

I Will:

  • Update the immigrant application process so that it is not as confusing and so that fees are more affordable
  • Universal background checks so that we do not risk the safety of American citizens
  • Skills Test - Currently immigrants take a test on U.S. History to gain citizenship. However, there are also thousands of immigrants who are trained professionals, but cannot get hired because their foreign institutions are not American accredited. We need to add a skill test so that employers can hire skilled workers.
  • Provide more resources for Border Patrol so that they can hire more agents and purchase upgraded technology
  • Greater USCIS support services to ease the burden of current employees and those wanting to become citizens of the United States
  • Do not remove DACA, but provide an updated framework. We should not punish individuals who are here illegally at no fault of their own, but rather set up a process for them to become contributing citizens. Many of them have only ever known America to be their home, and they love this country, too.

Following steps like this will create a smoother immigration process in our country. Furthermore, it will likely save money for our country because it replaces the band aids with a strong systematic process that maximizes resources instead of throwing money at a problem that is becoming worse.

Economy & Jobs

Small businesses have always been the backbone of the United States and our great economy. They have offered unique entrepreneurship opportunities and have been a driver of economic force. But our small businesses are facing difficult times, similar to the 2008 recession. In order to keep communities prosperous and small businesses thriving, politicians cannot continue to stack the deck against businesses and their owners.

In order to combat giant corporations and protect the middle-class and small business owners

I will:

  • Change the definition of small business to “100 employees or fewer”. Most government programs are established for businesses with 500 or fewer employees. However, the vast majority of businesses in the country are those with 100 employees or fewer. In the U.S., 98.% of the jobs are created by businesses of this size. By setting the bar too high, the government is diminishing the number of resources available to the truly small business owner
  • Reduce the tax rate, which currently sits at 39%.
  • Provide more federal funding and incentive programs for Americans starting small businesses.
  • Oppose any additional taxes, such as mileage tax or start-up fees, that will be detrimental to small businesses.

Inflation is another major part of the economy. Inflation rates that skyrocket due to unwarranted and unnecessary government spending is just another tax on the American people. Inflation under Democrat control in Washington was at 9.1% as of June 2022, leading to the American people having less and less money in their pocketbooks. We must leave a stable economic foundation for future generations, and inflation is only hurting that goal. Leaders must be sensible when creating economic policy, and consider the true needs of the people, not bend to the whims of their base, like Democrats do with outrageous unemployment benefits and disastrous supply-chain policies.

Healthcare

Healthcare is the one of the broadest and most important issues we face as a nation, and it is my top priority. I am in favor of expanding healthcare options for all citizens regardless of socio-economic background. Opening up competition across state lines will allow for a decrease in cost of coverage and will create a market for lower-income individuals and families. I support competition across state lines and pledge to never support a federal mandate that would harm competition and drive up prices for our most vulnerable citizens. The implementation of a federal mandate was not and never will be practical. A federal mandate hurt the middle class because healthcare premiums increased while an overwhelming immediate demand decreased quality.

Democrats’ solution for healthcare is to strengthen the Affordable Care Act (ACA), reinstitute the federal mandate, and penalize those who do not partake in the mandate. The ACA promised lower premiums and better coverage, yet it failed to deliver on either of those promises. Many people saw their premiums increase by as much as 3 times the initial cost, while simultaneously having fewer healthcare options. I agree with many Chicagoland area voters who want meaningful solutions to our healthcare crisis that do not cause skyrocketing prices.

I will:

  • Continue protections for preexisting conditions with the potential for Medicare eligibility pending condition status.
  • Require Insurance companies to disclose all costs, including the costs they pay for procedures for all patients. Visibility is key to keeping prices down, as well. Patients have the right to know what their doctor’s office and insurance will charge them prior to their visit.
  • Hold physicians and institutions accountable at the highest level. Fraud, waste, and abuse of medical insurance runs rampant, especially in Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Make it easier for patients to choose a new doctor who charges less for the same service their current doctor offers.
  • Allow insurance companies to negotiate drug prices. Competition in drug costs can help keep costs low for companies and consumers. Currently, the U.S. pays more for prescriptions than any other country because of senseless and burdensome regulations.
  • Assist with grants aimed at healthcare infrastructure. Grants specifically for technology and medical procedure advancement should be prioritized.

Veteran Services

Those who selflessly risked their lives for our nation should not be forced to sleep on the streets or unable to access the benefits they earned through their service. I will work tirelessly to ensure our veterans are honored for their commitment and sacrifice for our country.

I will:

  • Promote mental health services funding for our veterans.
  • Work to make sure the Department of Veterans Affairs is fully funded so that they can provide the services promised to our service members in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Be an advocate for veterans in the 3rd district who are struggling with regulatory red tape when trying to get access to their benefits and services.

Education

Student loan debt and lack of alternative educational opportunities are major issues facing young Americans. Our children are in schools that are failing to equip them for their futures. Our teachers are overburdened and not adequately compensated for the amazing work they do. Politicians and unions are looking out for their own interests rather than those of our children or our teachers. Higher education is a great equalizer in America, but more recently, good avenues such as trade schools are being neglected while the cost of college skyrockets.

I Will:

  • Limiting the amount of students in a classroom
  • Adding more trade classes in high school
  • Reduce the Federal Government's involvement in student loans.

I believe that college needs to be affordable, but students need to be more responsible about the student loan debt that they assume. We need to make college more affordable, but not a free pass. More and more Democrats are calling for student loan forgiveness, but those with student loans are often higher-income individuals that do not want to utilize their higher earnings to pay off the debt they assumed. They would rather be subsidized by the tax system that Americans at all income levels pay into. For instance, there are some in Congress with student loan debt that they would rather have the American citizen pay for rather than use their six-figure salary to be responsible and pay it off.

Bipartisanship

Our families, neighbors, coworkers and friends have different opinions, and we have always respected those differences. Republican and Democrats in power would rather focus on attacking the other rather than working together to find common-sense solutions that help all Americans. There are razor thin party margins in Congress, so it is clear neither side has a mandate to unilaterally lead. We need leaders who realize this and will reach across the aisle to better our country. I have spent my entire career building relationships within the community and forging partnerships with many local organizations and civic groups, regardless of personal opinions.

Currently:

  • Democrats only have a 5 vote margin in the House of Representatives (out of 435 seats)
  • The Senate is tied, with 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans.
  • President Biden received the most votes ever received in a Presidential election, however, President Trump received the second most votes ever received.
  • It is clear that neither party has a mandate to unilaterally govern. I will push for our leaders to come together, not continue to divide us.

2nd Amendment Rights

Despite many Democrats insisting the 2nd amendment protections would remain intact, this may be the closest we are to losing one of our most important rights. The main reason why many Democrats call for the ban of Assault Rifles is because they believe it will limit the amount of rounds. Currently, there is already a ban on magazines of 10 rounds or more.

I will:

  • Fight for our 2nd amendment rights
  • Support common-sense, universal background checks, as do over 80% of Americans.
  • Encourage more gun-safety programs to educate individuals on the proper use of firearms and the dangers of mishandling firearms.
  • Work to address gun violence and its relation to mental health issues.

Banning guns does not solve the issue. There is a large illegal market out there for guns to get in the hands of those with bad intentions. Law-abiding citizens should not have their rights taken away because of the criminal actions of others. Those involved in criminal actions with firearms should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

As we have seen in the Chicagoland area, overbearing gun restrictions do not solve our problems with crime and gun violence. Our nation’s problem can only be solved through common sense actions that do not take away the rights of law-abiding firearm owners. Democrats do not want to work on solving the problem, they want to implement fantasy, virtue-signaling policies that do nothing but hurt Americans that already respect the law.

Opioid Crisis

Democrats have stated that the opioid crisis is important to their campaigns. However, some of our Illinois representatives voted against bill S. 3201 (116th) (Temporary Reauthorization and Study of the Emergency Scheduling of Fentanyl Analogues Act), a Republican sponsored bill that would have extended the study of the deadly opiate Fentanyl while also requiring more research on its effects of Fentanyl. Although this bill passed, some of our Representatives stated they voted no because they are against the war on drugs.

In 2020, the Cook County Health Department stated there were more opioid deaths than gun homicides. We need to listen to our experts on this matter.

I will:

  • Implement the DARE program again within schools in coordination with sex education – like a health class but for “Adult Human behaviors”
  • Make this program more strictly educational based - not focused on virtue signaling, but giving students the facts they need so that they can make informed decisions and keep themselves safe and protected
  • Focus on research based findings of repeat addicts and work with the justice system to help rehabilitate those with addictions, while punishing those who manufacture and sell drugs illegally
  • See how drug usage impacts homelessness and work to combat this increase.

Justin’s first endorsement came for DuPage County Coroner, Richard Jorgensen who has been praised for his work on helping combat the opioid crisis in DuPage County[2]
