Justin Quackenbush
Justin Quackenbush was a Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. He joined the court in 1980 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Quackenbush assumed senior status on June 27, 1995. His service ended on October 27, 2024, upon his death.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Washington State from the University of Idaho with his bachelor's degree in 1951 and later graduated from the Gonzaga University School of Law with his law degree in 1957. Quackenbush also served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1954.
Professional career
Quackenbush was a Deputy prosecuting attorney for Spokane County from 1957 to 1959 before becoming a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Washington from 1959 to 1980. Quackenbush also served as a part-time Instructor at the Gonzaga University School of Law from 1961 to 1967.
Judicial career
Eastern District of Washington
Quackenbush was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on May 9, 1980 to a seat vacated by Marshall Neill as Neill assumed senior status. Quackenbush was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 18, 1980 on a senate vote and received commission on June 18, 1980. Quackenbush served as the chief judge of the court from 1989 to 1995 before assuming senior status on June 27, 1995. His service ended on October 27, 2024, upon his death.[1]
