Justin Weil is a passionate advocate for the people of Decatur, Alabama. With deep roots in the community, he grew up in Huntsville and is currently finishing his courses at Calhoun Community College and will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in urban planning at Alabama A&M University. As an industrial worker, Justin brings practical experience and a dedication to developing new talent. His vision for Decatur is one of effective governance, local prosperity, and a commitment to listening to the concerns and needs of residents.

He is the son of a mechanic, entrepreneur, and the eldest of four. In this he was raised to understand the value of hard work and the struggles that come with life. Justin previously work experience in the areas of food service, retail, medical, and currently manufacturing have given him a glimpse into the lives of many in our community that work in those fields.

Justin believes that his fresh energy, innovative ideas, and strong connection to the community make him the right choice to lead Decatur towards a brighter future. He is excited to serve the hardworking people of this city and hopes to earn their support in the upcoming mayoral election.

  • Crime and Policing The city of Decatur over the last handful of decades and certainly the last few years has gradually seen a build-up of criminal activities resulting in a high crime rate in many parts of the city. This has also caused a byproduct of tragedy, anger, and mistrust. We must repair the community and restore trust in our police force and local government. The first thing Justin will do when elected is to tackle the drug problem in our community. We must tackle the use of meth, heroin, and fentanyl. These drugs are a threat to the stability of our community and have perpetuated the increase of violent crime.
  • Infrastructure and Public Transportation Transportation is the key to life for everyone. Currently the only transportation options are Personal vehicle, foot/bicycle, and NARCOG Transit. There is no reason a city of almost 60,000 people can not support its own bus system even if it starts out with just two buses running two routes. Justin will partner with City Council to create the Decatur Transit Authority.
  • Parks and Intertainment Parks are something our community doesn’t lack. However, quality parks that encourage families to spend the evenings and weekends visiting we as a city do lack. We need to invest in our parks by providing new equipment and activities for individuals and families to enjoy. Furthermore, we need to provide the long requested and desired skate park to the people of our city. Entertainment is an area Decatur can improve on immensely. In partnership with the chamber of commerce, city council, and developers Justin will strive to bring in more entertainment for both children and adults. One such entertainment opportunity he hopes to offer the city is a yearly street festival in downtown.

A candidate should be transparent and have integrity and follow through and act on the things they say. A candidate must also be willing and able to answer any question that arises.

The core responsibility for someone in an elected office is to listen to the people of their community and act in a way that represents them.

Financial transparency should be total on the government level and the people and those elected should and ought to hold themselves accountable.

I am committed to reform in all areas I don't have a single area I am not passionate about.

To me it means a mayor will put themselves amongst the people and be seen. They cannot choose or disenfranchise anyone just because they disagree with them or are different. The mayor should be spearheading initiatives to improve the city for everyone and with that finding ways to support local organizations.

I love how easy it is to meet people and get to know people on an individual level. There aren't many places in the county you are able to do that.

Solving the crime and social divides that have torn the city part. We have a lot of issues we need to tackle but those two things are getting down to the root cause of many of our issues.

One where the state supports the city and the city supports the state.

One where the federal government aids the city in improving the city but also the city must show the government it is capable and responsible.

The Mayors office should work with law enforcement and with that in extension with the city council.

I worked at Burger King in High school back in 2009. I had it for a year.

I know what its like to work the jobs of many of my fellow residents in the community. I feel that having worked in a divers background has given me experiences many of my counterparts necessarily do not have.
