I am a proud product of Gwinnett County Public Schools. Attending one of the best high schools in our state right here in Gwinnett didn't just give me a world-class education; it gave me a sense of responsibility. I saw what happens when a community invests in its children, and I saw the doors that investment could open for a kid from Norcross. My journey began over a decade ago, organizing in the streets long before I set foot on an Ivy League campus. During that time, I worked at Alston & Bird and the Federal Defender's office, where my eyes were opened to the profound systemic failures of our legal and social institutions. Seeing how the scales of justice were so often tilted against the most vulnerable didn't just frustrate me—it gave me a mission. I eventually went on to Yale University, but my heart never left Georgia. I deepened my commitment to organizing because I wanted to understand the mechanisms of power—and why they fail so many of us. I spent years in the strategy rooms of U.S. Senators, Governors, and Members of Congress, learning how the gears of government turn—but also why they so often get stuck for families like mine. It’s time to break through those systems and bring it home for Gwinnett working families.
  • Immigration: Safety and Dignity for Our Neighbors. Gwinnett’s diversity is our greatest strength. From Buford Highway to Pleasant Hill, our immigrant communities are the heartbeat of our economy. I will work to ensure that Gwinnett remains a place of safety and dignity, standing against policies that target our neighbors and ensuring our local government focuses on service, not fear. With families and Americans under attack by Washington, we’ll fight together to protect Gwinnett from the severe encroachment of civil rights by the federal government.
  • Affordability & Quality of Life: Keeping Gwinnett Accessible. We are facing an affordability crisis that threatens the very fabric of our community. As housing costs rise and private equity firms change the landscape of our neighborhoods, we must act to keep Gwinnett accessible for the people who work and live here. I will support sensible housing policies and transit solutions that connect our residents to jobs and opportunity without pricing them out of their homes.
  • Education: Protecting and Expanding Excellence. I am a proud product of Gwinnett County Public Schools, and I know we have some of the best institutions in the nation. As the manager of the $1.4 billion E-SPLOST renewal, I’ve proven I can deliver the resources our schools need. My goal is to protect Gwinnett’s high standards while ensuring that every student in our district—no matter their background—has access to the same world-class opportunities I had.
Taxes are simply too high, and as someone who supports my family and pays these taxes, I know exactly how that feels. Our state government has the budget it needs to support working families, but for too long, more of those resources have gone to corporations than to our people. The budget is there, but the bold leadership is absent. I will fight to change our priorities, ensuring our tax dollars are invested back into the hardworking families who actually fuel Gwinnett's economy.
Ruwa Romman, State Representative, District 97.
