Campaign themes

Martin answered the following about her campaign in a July 2014 interview with the Columbia Daily Herald:[2]

How would you characterize the current relationship between school board and county commission? What would you do to maintain or change it?
I hope that both the elected school board and county commission understands they need each other to provide an outstanding learning environment for all students. There should be better communication of needs, understanding of needs and addressing of needs for positive growth and academic excellence across Maury County Public Schools.

What do you believe is he most pressing issue facing the school board and how would you address it?
Central High School is an important concern for the School Board and County Commission that has been discussed and debated. This project should be addressed immediately by outlining the capital project priorities across the school system including modifying priorities to get this project started soon.

How effective do you believe Eddie Hickman has been as the schools director? Explain.
Under his leadership positive enhancements have occurred. His philosophy of secondary education and management style give him a wide view of the needs of the school system. During the first year, I will spend some time meeting with Mr. Hickman to get a better understanding of his philosophy and management style. [3]
