My name is KaMesha Bernard and I am a community advocate with a background in criminal justice and a candidate for Kansas State Representative in District 78. I Have lived in Kansas for the majority of my life, I have deep roots in the community and a clear understanding of the challenges facing Kansas families.

Through my work in criminal justice, I have seen firsthand how policy decisions impact public safety, economic stability, and fairness. I am known for keeping it real with people-being honest, direct, and transparent- and not making promises I do not keep. Instead, I believes in listening, working collaboratively, and finding real solutions to real problems. As a candidate for state representative, I am focused on improving education, expanding economic opportunities, advancing equality, and ensuring affordable living and accessible healthcare. I am committed to making government more accountable, practical, and responsive to the people it serves.

I believes effective leadership means putting people before politics and doing the work necessary to deliver results for District 78.
  • Economic Opportunity: Families in District 78 are feeling the strain of rising living costs, stagnant wages, and limited access to affordable housing. Many residents are working full‑time jobs yet still struggle to cover rent, healthcare, childcare, or savings. These pressures make it harder for families to plan for the future and stress local services. KaMesha supports policies that foster job creation, equitable wage growth, and expanded access to affordable housing so families can achieve financial security and opportunity.

  • ICE / Immigration Enforcement Accountability: Immigration policy and how enforcement agencies like ICE operate can have real impacts on families and communities here, including mixed‑status households and local businesses dependent on immigrant labor. Residents are concerned about fairness, due process, and how enforcement actions affect community trust in public institutions. KaMesha advocates for clear, humane policies that protect due process rights and ensure that federal enforcement does not undermine community cohesion or economic stability.
I am passionate about economic opportunity, education, and immigration accountability because these issues directly affect the daily lives of families in District 78.

I am very committed to expanding economic opportunity so working families can afford housing, groceries, childcare, and healthcare without living paycheck to paycheck. I believes in policies that support small businesses, strengthen wages, and create pathways to financial stability.

Education is another core passion. I advocates for transparency in schools, fair funding, and meaningful support for teachers and students. I believes every child deserves access to quality education regardless of background or zip code, and that parents deserve a voice in their children’s learning
