Campaign themes

2016

Beck's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Education and Early Child Development

Washington needs a three point plan when it comes to education. First, we must pay teachers more! Teachers are the backbone of our education system and they deserve to be paid accordingly. Increasing teacher wages will help retain quality educators and provide our children with the education they deserve. Second, we must build more schools. Increasing the number of schools will increase the quality of education by decreasing classroom sizes. Third, we must expand and increase our funding to early childhood development. Many very low income families do not have access to early childhood development, this is unacceptable.

Affordable Housing

Washington must take steps to expand Renter's Rights and make sure renters are not being exploited. We also must work to increase affordable housing options to accommodate the growth we have seen in our population. Washington must also take better steps to take care of our homeless veteran and neighbors. Increasing the budget for mental health and drug programs, and emergency shelter capacities.

Environment and Energy

Environmental and Energy policy should be one of the largest concerns we have in the next session. The decisions we make today will affect our lives for decades to come. Personally, I am tired of the "Too Little, Too Late" approach to legislation that doesn't solve the problem. Olympia needs to provide more incentives for people and businesses to shift to clean and renewable energy. Washington should take steps to remove harmful plastic products from circulation, the first piece of legislation I will introduce will be to install a 5 cent plastic bag tax, across the state. This will, not only, curb the use of plastic bags but, also, provide revenue for funding renewable and clean energy incentives.

I AM VEHEMENTLY OPPOSED TO ANY OIL TERMINAL.

Unions and Workplace Rights

Unions have played a critical role in American history. They have worked to secure living wages for the American people for decades and are the backbone to American workers. We should expands union rights as they continue to fight for the American worker! I will introduce legislation that will assist unions in there fight to keep big business accountable to Washingtonians.

Single Payer Healthcare

Every year, thousands of Washingtonians are affected by debilitating medical debt. Progressives advocate for a single payer healthcare system and I stand with them. As legislators in Olympia, we must do all in our power to make sure our seniors do not have to choose between the medications and their livelihood. Moving towards a single payer system should be a national effort.[1]
