A Kalkaska County Library Tax Levy proposal was defeated on the May 7, 2013, election ballot in Kalkaska County, which is in Michigan.
If approved, this measure would have authorized the County of Kalkaska to increase its property taxes by 0.87 mill ($0.87 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for 20 years in order to fund the construction, furnishing and operating of the Kalkaska County Library. The estimated firat year revenue from this tax is $625,000.[1]

Language on the ballot:
| “ | Shall the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution on the amount of taxes which may be imposed by the County of Kalkaska against real and tangible personal property in the County be increased by up to 87/100 of one mill ($0.87 per $1,000.00 per taxable valuation) on the taxable value of such property for a period of Twenty (20) years, beginning with the December 1, 2013 tax levy, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for the construction, equipping, furnishing, and operating of the Kalkaska County Library, and shall the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners be authorized to levy such millage for this purpose? If approved and levied in its entirety, this millage is estimated to raise approximately $625,000.00 when first levied in 2013.[1][2] | ” |
