A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. Over the past fourteen years, Karen has worked hard to grow her company. She has lived the daily grind of having to make payroll, navigate supply chain scarcities and manpower shortages. Like other business owners, Karen put everything on the line to chase the American Dream and has succeeded, but not without struggle. She has experienced first-hand how confusing, complicated, and absolutely frustrating government laws and regulations are. Nearly half of all Americans are employed by a small business, yet our government does everything in its power to put up barriers and obstacles to success. Karen is an ardent volunteer and philanthropic leader. Federal spending and the national debt are out of control. We are burying our children and our grandchildren’s futures under a mountain of debt, and every year that mountain just gets higher. No business could operate this way. No family could operate this way. We need to hold our government to the same standard as everyone else. We need to do everything we can to rein in out of control federal spending and to protect the future for our children and grandchildren.

This country was built by immigrants, and Karen supports legal immigration, but we must secure and defend our borders. That is the only way we can bring an end to the flow of illegal drugs and human trafficking coming across our borders.

Karen supports an all of the above approach when it comes to energy. That means we need to promote the production of oil and natural gas resources here at home, in order for America to return to energy independence.

The following analysis covers all U.S. House districts up for election in Kansas in 2024. Information below was calculated on June 27, 2024, and may differ from information shown in the table above due to candidate replacements and withdrawals after that time.

Fifteen candidates ran for Kansas’ four U.S. House districts, including five Democrats and 10 Republicans. That’s an average of 3.75 candidates per district. There was an average of 2.25 candidates per district in 2022, 4.75 candidates per district in 2020 and 6.00 in 2018.

The 2nd Congressional District was the only open district in Kansas in 2024. Incumbent Rep. Jacob LaTurner (R-02) retired from public office.

Seven candidates—two Democrats and five Republicans—ran for the open 2nd Congressional District, the most candidates who ran for a district in Kansas in 2024.

Four primaries—one Democratic and three Republican—were contested in 2024. Between 2014 and 2022, an average of 4.2 primaries were contested each election cycle.

One incumbent—Rep. Tracey Mann (R-01)—ran in a contested primary this year, tying with 2020 for the second-fewest in the last 10 years.

Candidates filed to run in the Republican and Democratic primaries in both districts, meaning no seats were guaranteed to either party.
