Kansas Legislature Research Department
The Kansas Legislature Research Department is a nonpartisan, all-purpose legislative research service bureau serving the members and staff of the Kansas Legislature.
Governance
The Legislative Research Department is led by a director who hires and oversees a staff of researchers, analysts and other staff who conduct the day to day operations of the department.[1]
Services offered
Committee staffing
The Legislative Research Department staffs all standing and special committees in the Kansas Legislature.[2]
Fiscal analysis
The Legislative Research Department does all fiscal analysis for Kansas Legislators. All appropriations bills are researched by the LRD.[3]
Legislative research
All requests for research by legislators are handled by the LRD. All requests are confidential and exempt from the Kansas Open Records Act.[4]
History
The Legislative Research Department was first formed on an act of the Kansas Legislature in 1934.[5]
