Kara L. Pettit is a judge for the Third Judicial District Court in Utah. The court presides over Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties. Pettit was appointed to the court by Governor Gary Herbert on September 15, 2014, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Terry L. Christiansen. She was approved by the Utah State Senate on October 15.[1][2] Pettit will face a retention election in 2018.[3]

Pettit received her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1988 and her J.D. degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1995.[4]
