Campaign themes

2016

Reed's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • State budget/economy: Right now, our state’s tax plan is hurting working Kansans. Our district has experienced the effects of the Brownback tax plan first hand—current policies are tying the hands of local government and harming our communities. It’s time for a tax plan and state budget that will create jobs, support infrastructure projects and strengthen public education in our state.
  • Education: Schools need adequate funding to operate and teach the next generation of leaders. While our current state leaders are busy proposing additional cuts to early childhood, K-12 and higher education, our local school districts are struggling to maintain the quality education that our schools proudly provide. Our administrators deserve to have the resources that will let them do their jobs.
  • A new direction: Our state has been moving in the wrong direction for far too long and Kansans are suffering the consequences of irresponsible government. It is time to move away from leadership that has been in lock-step with Gov. Brownback and towards a more efficient and responsible Kansas.
  • Accountability: Our leaders need to be accountable to the people they represent. That means being available to constituents and working with them to figure out what is best for our communities. It also means listening to and compromising with fellow legislators to come to common-sense solutions regardless of party ideologies.[1]
