Kara Stein is a former commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission. She was appointed by President Barack Obama (D) and served in that role from 2013 to 2019. Stein previously worked as an associate, law professor, and policy adviser on the Dodd-Frank Act.[1]
Biography
Stein received her B.A. from Yale College and J.D. from Yale Law School. She worked as an associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, and an assistant professor at the University of Dayton School of Law. She was also an advocacy fellow at Georgetown University Law Center and a Skadden public interest fellow.[1]
Stein served as a senior policy adviser to Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) on securities and banking issues. She was the staff director of the Securities, Insurance, and Investment Subcommittee from 2009 to 2013, where she was involved in drafting the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
From 2013 to 2019, Stein served as commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission. She was appointed by President Barack Obama (D) and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
