2014

Hargrove's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[4]

Educational Resources

  • Excerpt: "California will only be strong, prosperous, and competitive when this State’s workforce is knowledgeable and/or possess skills that are in demand. We need exceptional schools. Some students are best suited to higher education while others will find their future in trades or enterprises."

Women

  • Excerpt: "Women should be compensated on a scale that is equal to anyone else with comparable skills and ability. It is not acceptable to pay a lower salary because the employee is a woman. When a mother is working, daycare is often necessary. This additional economic demand should not be further strained because of unequal pay."

Economic Opportunity

  • Excerpt: "The Great Recession hit the 42nd District hard. We must work to build partnerships that increase business opportunities, the number of jobs, and wage fairness. Workers need decent wages to support business activity."

Environment

  • Excerpt: "The 42nd Assembly District contains both unparalleled natural beauty and coveted natural resources. Economic development of this district must be undertaken with community landscapes and cultures in mind. Infrastructure needs--including water, roadways, and Internet access--are key challenges in promoting clean local industries."

Public Safety

  • Excerpt: "Strong schools and a vibrant economy allow people to thrive --and reduce crime."
