Karen B. Rothenberg
Karen B. Rothenberg is a judge of the New York Supreme Court 2nd Judicial District. She assumed office in 2007. Her current term ends on December 31, 2034.
Rothenberg (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for judge of the New York Supreme Court 2nd Judicial District. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Education
Rothenberg received her B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany in 1974 and her J.D. from the Brooklyn School of Law in 1981.[1][2]
Career
Rothenberg began her legal career in 1982 as an attorney with the firm of Gerbert & Garson, PC and as an arbitrator with the New York Arbitration Committee. She left Gerbert & Garson in 1984 and, the following year, left the Arbitration Committee. She then joined the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, where she served on the Appeals Board until 1997. From 1984 to 1997, she also worked as a private practice attorney and, in 1996 and 1997, she was a member of the Grievance Committee for the 2nd and 11th Judicial Districts.
Rothenberg began her judicial career in 1998 when she was elected to the New York City Civil Court of Kings County. She served in that capacity until she was elected to the supreme court in 2007. During this time, she also worked as a deputy supervising judge (2000-2001) and a supervising judge (2001-2006) for the civil court of Kings County and an acting justice of the Kings County Supreme Court (2001-2006). Since 2007, she has served as a Richmond County judge of the Integrated Domestic Violence and Matrimonial Part.[1]
