Originally from Washington, D.C. I am a 20 year USAF Veteran who Retired from Eglin AFB, and local Realtor for Northwest Florida. When I am not running for office or providing real estate services, I spend my time drawing and painting with the Alliance of Ebony Artists and the Arts and Design Society of NWFL. I've been active in my community as a member of the Fort Walton Beach, Chamber and supporting the Hispanic and Native American Festivals and art shows and many other organizations. I've had enough of sitting on the sidelines and watching things happen around me. If you are crying about it on Facebook you have no voice. I have a voice, and I want to be the voice of others in making a difference. And old supervisor in the Military once told me "Butler, nothing is ever going to change, until You get in a position to make that change". So put me in Coach, I'm ready to be the change I wan't to see.
  • We must protect our homeless Veterans. Expand medicaid and provide them the necessary healthcare they need and affordable housing.
  • Protecting our environment is protecting ourselves. Our drinking water is being poisoned, the soil and air an corporations aren't being held accountable.
  • Upgrading our infrastructure, will bring more and better jobs to the area. And we need to support and protect our teachers, they are responsible for guiding our future leaders.
I am passionate about regulatory measures not being enforced against corporations that have been destroying the environment and beautiful beaches of Northwest Florida. We have reached critical health issues from contamination and storm water runoff. Systemic neglect will ultimately ruin the economy of the Gulf Coast.

We have to stop the siphoning of public education funds to private schools. Our teachers are the most important careers of our society, that of handling the education of our children and need to receive the resources and pay they deserve and the funding to provide the educations programs that are available. Florida is in the 47th percentile, Pay them what they are worth!

Expanded and affordable healthcare and housing is an an entitlement especially for our Veterans that everyone must adopt. Fair housing is not optional and must be enforced to keep everyone including LGBTQ protected and safe.
In school we watched and learned about Rep Shirley Chisholm as she was sworn into Congress and again when she became the first woman and African American woman to run for the President of the United States. But because of racial discrimination she was blocked from participating in the televised debates. She said "she wanted to be remembered as a Woman... who dared to be a catalyst of change"

So here we are 100 years after women were given the right to vote, and I am the first Woman in over 100 years to run for and hopefully be elected to represent Florida's 1st District.
Service before self. When elected you are there to represent thousands of people who's voices and concerns you are supposed to carry with you to the Senate.
The military has prepared me with unmatched leadership training. My responsibilities included the management of people, organizations and millions of dollars in assets. As a Realtor, you learn to deal with many people of many cultures and diverse backgrounds. The homebuying process requires you to deal with, respond to and reach out to many different organizations to make the process run smoothly and meet the needs of clients at the same time. It takes a skill set of Interpersonal communications that will be vital in the State Legislature.
I would like to be the type of legislator that others would like to model themselves after. Then I know I will have done a good job.
I watched on television the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. I was eight years old at the time.
Lol my first job was in the USAF and I held it proudly for 20 years!
No, I do not believe state legislators have to have previous experience in government or politics. Sometimes a fresher perspective may come from someone outside the political arena.
I believe Florida will have to do some racial healing. I believe our state is lagging in it's environmental progress, we need to participate in more renewable energy. And we need to correct decades of toxic waste disposal into our communities.
We must build relationships with other legislators, because at the end of the day, we are sent to the Senate to represent the voices of the people of Florida.
I'm in favor of removing gerrymandering. Certain areas of my district and even certain neighborhoods and streets in the middle of my district have literally been cut out of my voting district. That has to be corrected. Fair voting areas should be just that, fair.
There are generations of families living within 2 miles of toxic waste areas that were not properly contained. They have abnormal rates of cancer, upper respiratory diseases, and have lost numerous family and friends. The current stench in the air in and around their homes is unfathomable. It must be addressed immediately.
