Noteworthy cases
Rights of illegitimate child same as rights of legitimate child
According to the Michigan Court of Appeals, a father may be held responsible for retroactive child support to an adult child. The Michigan Court of Appeals affirmed a decision by Kent County Circuit Judge Paul Sullivan in favor of a 21-year-old woman's claim that she was owed retroactive child support by her father, a Grand Rapids pharmacist. The total support would be based on the father's growing income since his graduation from pharmacology school. Appeals court judges Jessica Cooper, Peter O'Connell, and Karen Fort Hood noted in their opinion that the rights of illegitimate children must be equal to those of legitimate children.[5]
Political affiliation and campaign contributions
Hood primarily contributed to Democratic candidates, but she contributed to Republicans as well.[6]
