Karen L. Townsend

Karen L. Townsend is the chief judge of the Eleventh Judicial District of New Mexico.[1] She was appointed to the bench in August 2006 and was retained in 2008.[2] Townsend was retained again in 2014 for a term that expires on December 31, 2020.[3] She was selected to serve for a three-year term as chief judge of the Eleventh Judicial District on May 14, 2015.[4]

Education
Townsend received her undergraduate degree from Fort Lewis College and her J.D. from Syracuse University.[2]
Career
Prior to her appointment to the bench, Townsend worked in several capacities. She served as a domestic violence hearing officer, as an attorney for the City of Aztec, as a guardian ad litem for abuse and neglect cases, and as an attorney in private practice.[2]
