Karen Mitchell
Karen Mitchell is a judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals Western District. She assumed office in 2009. Her current term ends on December 31, 2034.
Mitchell ran for re-election for judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals Western District. She won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.
Biography
Education
Mitchell earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in 1981 and her J.D. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law in 1984.[1]
Career
Mitchell served for more than 20 years in the office of the attorney general. There she held a number of positions, including chief deputy attorney general, state solicitor, and chief counsel of the governmental affairs division. Mitchell also served as a law clerk for judges on the Missouri Supreme Court and Missouri Circuit Court, 16th Circuit. Prior to her appointment to the court of appeals, Mitchell was the director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, a post that she was appointed to by Gov. Nixon in January 2009.[1]
