Karen Yarbrough
Karen Yarbrough (Democratic Party) was the Cook County Clerk in Illinois. Yarbrough assumed office in 2018. Yarbrough left office on April 7, 2024.
Yarbrough (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for Cook County Clerk in Illinois. Yarbrough won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Yarbrough is a former Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing District 7 from 2001 to 2013. She served as assistant majority leader from 2011 to 2012.
Biography
Yarbrough is the founder/chief executive officer of Hathaway Insurance Agency Incorporated.[1] She obtained a B.A. in business management from Chicago State University, an M.A. in inner city studies from Northeastern Illinois University, and an M.A. in advanced leadership studies from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.[2]

Cook County held elections for county board of review, state's attorney, clerk of the circuit court, county recorder, and special districts in 2016. The general election was held on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on March 15, 2016.[3] Incumbent Karen Yarbrough (D) ran unopposed in the Cook County recorder general election.[4]

Yarbrough won re-election to the 7th District seat against Independent Princess Cynthia Dempsey. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on February 2nd. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.[6]

The Illinois Opportunity Project, "an independent research and public policy enterprise that promotes legislative solutions in advance of free markets and free minds," annually releases its Legislative Vote Card, grading all members in both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly on the basis of their support of "pro-growth economic policies that increase personal freedom and reign in expansive government."[9][10]

Yarbrough received a score of 37.50 out of 100 in 2012 for a grade of F according to the IOP’s grading scale. Her score was tied for the 80th highest among all 120 members of the Illinois House of Representatives included in the Vote Card.[10]
