Hi! I'm Kari Miller, and I am hoping to earn your vote for the open seat on the Lonsdale City Council! My children and I moved to Lonsdale in 2020. While I may be fairly new to town, I am not new to leadership and service positions. As a former small business owner, and now as a Registered Nurse/Public Health Nurse, I have dealt with Local, State, and Federal-level governments in may capacities throughout the years. I am well educated, and hold 4 degrees in the medical field (the fields below won't let me enter all 4 degrees, so I entered the most recent from St. Catherine University). I believe the people should have a voice when it comes to how their tax dollars are spent, and government should be held fiscally accountable for that spending. I also believe the people should be part of the decision-making in the progress of the town they live in. I hope to be an advocate for the great people and businesses of Lonsdale!

  • I want to be an advocate for the people & businesses of Lonsdale.
  • I want to help maintain the small town charm of Lonsdale while progressing toward the future.
  • I enjoy serving others & being actively involved in being part of the community.

Keeping things local as much as possible to maintain the small town feel & boosting the local economy. Utilizing the taxes we already pay in a fiscally responsible way that benefits the Community as a whole. Getting input from the residents when it comes to spending tax dollars. Holding government accountable.

People who have known me for years, including previous customers from my small businesses, race fans from my stock car racing days, previous and current coworkers, friends, family, as evidenced by social media posts and messages.

I was a sales associate at Sears Roebuck & Company at Burnsville Center. I was quickly promoted to a department leadership role, and once I graduated high school, I became a department manager. I was told that I was the youngest department manager in the history of that location.

I remember the Challenger explosion. I was in 5th grade in elementary school and we were watching it live on TV because a teacher was on board.

I look up to anyone who has worked hard and overcomes obstacles and challenges to get to where they are at. I myself have worked extremely hard to get to where I am at in life and respect others who have done the same. It is not easy to not have things handed to you and to have to work for it.

It is vital to include residents in the government's decision making as it is the resident's tax dollars at work. I plan to connect with residents and businesses regularly in person, through meet and greet events, and electronic communication. I am always happy to hear what the people have to say so that I can be the best advocate I can be!

Our downtown has so much potential! There are definitely areas of improvement, and I am looking forward to hearing from the residents on their ideas as well! My small businesses were typically located in a small town downtown area, so I am very familiar with maintaining historic features and highlighting the uniqueness of each business.

I appreciate the City's approach to public safety, and the investment that was recently made to build a new facility for our Police Department. I support our first responders.

I believe in medical freedom (patient's right to choose). As a nurse, I have a ethical duty to uphold the Nursing Code of Ethics when it comes to patient care and treatments.

I will take into consideration the input and feedback from the people. This is their town, and their voices matter.

It is important to have representation of the people on the local City Council. Many decisions that are made impact residents immediately and can have longterm effects. This position is one of service and the person elected should have that at the forefront of their campaign as I do.

I believe a person in the office of City Council should have experience with owning a business, or a leadership role, so that there is a deeper understanding of fiscal responsibility and accountability. This person does not necessarily need political office experience, however they should be involved with knowing how the system works, ways to improve it, and remember they work for the people.

I believe skills should include knowledge of accounting, budgeting, fiscal responsibility, negotiating, conflict management, statistics, research, public speaking, engaging presentations, and demonstrated ability to communicate and have transparency.

To be an active listener of the residents and businesses and take into consideration their concerns and ideas.

I possess many qualities that would make me a successful officeholder: friendly, kind, intelligent, critical thinker, educated, experienced, passionate, loyal, dedicated to name a few.
