|A third-generation Chicagoan, I am the daughter of an Air Force veteran and sheet metal worker father and an entrepreneur- mother. After my parents’ divorce, I learned to advocate, mentor, and serve others by watching my mother.
I joined Teach for America in 1991. A product of Chicago Public Schools and Northwestern University, I enrolled in Southern Methodist University’s School of Law to begin my journey of breaking down systemic barriers to economic mobility for all. As a litigator, I fought for youth and families as an advocate, non-profit leader, and adjunct law professor, working in the fields of mental health law, community and workforce development, education, and public utility consumer protection.
Among my leadership accomplishments, I am proud of the roughly 100,000 people placed into long-lasting careers, and my management of half a billion dollars of economic investments in job training and placement and business development. I am a catalyst for change and lead by serving others, advocating for equity in all economic opportunities in every space I sit in.- I have dedicated my life to creating opportunities and making our community stronger. I took over a corrupt government agency and turned it around and have connected more than 100,000 people to good paying union jobs. I know that the best way to reduce crime is to create opportunity and break the cycle of poverty, which is why Congressman Bobby Rush endorsed me. In Congress, I will work to do more to provide opportunity for our area.
- Attacks on our democracy disrespect history and the people who fought and died for our right to vote. I will fight to protect every eligible voters' ability to vote, period.
- I will stand against laws like Texas' that essentially outlaw abortion and criminalize women, and will fight to protect women's health, safety, and economic future.
Economy and Jobs: From the grocery store to the gas pump, working families are feeling the pain of higher prices across the board. We need to empower more workers to do what’s best for their families, through more affordable childcare, paid family and sick leave, and universal Pre-K.
Healthcare: Health care and prescription drugs are just too expensive, and access to care is highly inequitable depending upon where you live and what you look like. This isn’t acceptable.
Education: As a mom of two CPS students, one of whom has special needs, I have had to navigate a complicated bureaucracy to get the services and quality education my children deserve. It shouldn’t be this hard. No matter where you’re born, what you look like, or what your learning needs are, you should have access to a quality, public education that meets you where you are and prepares you for the future.
