Karina Brown is President of the Friends of the Cache County Children's Justice Center Board and was a founding citizen sponsor of the Medicaid Expansion ballot initiative (Proposition 3) adopted by Utah voters in 2018. She also serves on the Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is Co-Chair of the Cache Chamber Legislative Affairs Committee. She is a Planning Commissioner for the city of Nibley, Utah. And she is the co-founder of the Cache Valley United for Change organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement. She is a Governing Board Member of Logan Regional Hospital.

Karina also currently serves as Co-Chair of Cache Celebration of Women's Suffrage 2020, an organization working to celebrate the centennial of the 19th amendment. The organization is dedicated to educating Utah students about voting history including the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and 1870 when Seraph Young of Utah was the first woman in America to vote under an equal suffrage law. The Women's Suffrage 2020 curriculum includes an educational exhibit available to Utah school districts.

Brown has an M.S. in Human, Environmental, and Consumer Resources from Eastern Michigan University and a B.S. in Family Resources and Human Development from Arizona State University. She is currently pursuing a Public Leadership Credential from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Karina and her husband Karl live with their four children in Nibley, Utah.
  • Healthcare: (1) continue to support Medicaid expansion; (2) increase the Medicaid marketing and enrollment budget; (3) withdraw from the lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act; (4) work to make Utah a leader in mental health care (5) advocate for affordable and quality healthcare
  • Education: (1) Raise public school teacher salaries significantly-at least to the levels in our neighboring states; (2) Reduce the student-teacher classroom ratios by recruiting and retaining new teachers; (3) Do more to encourage parents to volunteer and help teaching by sharing their expertise; and (4) using the latest computer and Internet technologies in classrooms to prepare our children for the future. Our goal should be to create the finest public education system in America.
  • Civic engagement: (1) promote voter registration; (2) clearly publicize voter registration deadlines, voting dates and procedures; (3) create a public marketing campaign to inspire residents to vote
I am passionate about healthcare access for all, especially vulnerable populations. My mother passed away in 2013 in the healthcare coverage gap. Her passing motivated me to become involved in public service and politics. I was one of five citizen sponsor/signatories of Proposition 3 to expand Medicaid and am grateful that approximately 120,000 Utahns are now eligible for Medicaid.
