E. Karl Prohl was a judge for Texas District 198. He resigned suddenly on September 15, 2009 after 18 years on the bench. There were 15 remaining months in his term, which may be filled by an appointment from the Governor. Prohl's resignation came amid an investigation of inappropriate acceptance of money from former District Attorney Ron Sutton, stemming from a complaint brought by attorney Richard Ellison.[1] Melvin Emerson was appointed as Prohl's replacement.[2]
