Karl Tatgenhorst
Karl Tatgenhorst ran as a Libertarian candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Indiana in the 2016 elections. He was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.
He was also previously a Libertarian candidate for Indiana Secretary of State in the 2014 elections.[1]
Tatgenhorst was nominated for the office of Indiana Secretary of State by delegates at the Libertarian Party of Indiana's April 2014 convention. He faced Republican incumbent Connie Lawson and Democrat Beth White in the November general election. Karl Tatgenhorst lost the general election on November 4, 2014.[2]
The Libertarian Party has been a ballot qualified political party in Indiana since 1994. In 2010, Libertarian secretary of state candidate Mike Wherry earned 6 percent of the vote in the general election—far surpassing the minimum threshold required for instant ballot clearance in Indiana. According to Indiana election laws, if a party's candidate for the Indiana Secretary of State race, specifically, garners at least 2 percent of the vote in the general election, that party can bypass the petition stage otherwise necessary for obtaining representation on the ballot for the subsequent four years. This access applies to all races held within the state during such a four year period.[3]
Tatgenhorst is a veteran of the U.S. Army and works as an IT executive.
