Kate grew up in a union family, attended public schools, and was raised to value social justice. After working her way through college at WKU, Kate wanted to help tackle big problems and headed to law school at the University of Louisville. Kate learned that the job of a lawyer is to problem solve and to fight hard for the people you represent, especially people who have been harmed or disadvantaged by broken systems. For the past 15 years, Kate has been fighting against injustice and advocating for systemic reforms. She has defended the rights of individuals while working as a public defender, an immigration attorney, a small business owner, and a volunteer attorney for people in need. In her work, Kate has walked with people through systems that don’t work for everyone. Kate wants to put her experience to work building systems that DO work for everyone. Her work has prepared her to tackle the big challenges in District 6 and the City of Louisville with empathy and a big-picture perspective.
  • I am passionate about being an advocate for the people of the district, making good policy, and ensuring that we are funding the services people need.
  • I have the experience to get things done.
  • I want to connect and unite the neighborhoods in the district to strengthen our community and to increase the power of the people of the community through a District Advisory Council.
I’m passionate about community safety, housing, and equitable development. Community safety means addressing gun violence, climate change, environmental justice, and making streets safe for walking, biking, and driving. Housing is a human right, but we lack enough affordable housing in our city. This is a root cause of housing instability and homelessness. I want to address that need and our lack of shelter space. Finally. I want communities that have historically lacked investment to receive investment and services. As those neighborhoods change, the people who live there should not be displaced.
I’m a person who listens more than I talk. If you’re listening, you can learn a lot and help others feel heard. I’m also tenacious and passionate. I’ve often succeeded over the years just by continuing to push and not giving up on things I really care about.
My first job was cutting grass when I was 11, followed by babysitting when I was 12. I did that until I started waiting tables in high school.
The job of an elected official is to deliver solutions. My 15+ years of experience as an attorney gives me an understanding of policy, process, legislation, and negotiation. That experience will allow me to translate ideals into action.
