|I am the mom of two BTSD students. Over the years, I have served on the elementary home and school board, volunteered at the middle school level, and I am currently the secretary of the high school drama boosters board. I am a former educator with a Master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. In my current role, I oversee the business operations of a medical practice where I support a team of healthcare professionals and manage the business finances. Through these experiences, I have gained a high degree of operational knowledge and learned to navigate multiple school systems as a teacher, a parent, and an advocate.
- Bensalem Focused: Keeping Washington politics out of Bensalem to ensure that every decision benefits our local community.
- Student Centered: Prioritizing educational excellence by raising math scores and directing vital funding where it matters most- on our students.
- Teacher Led: Empowering our educators by involving them in key decision-making processes, recognizing the expertise they bring to our schools.
As a child, I hated writing. I didn't feel confident and struggled with finding my creativity. In the fifth grade I had a teacher that assigned a creative writing project and I was frozen with dread. I remember sitting at the kitchen table, crying because I felt so stuck. My dad, a police officer and former Navy man, always knew just how to handle these stressful situations. He sat down and listened quietly as I cried and panicked. When I resumed a small bit of composure, my dad leaned in and broke the tension with a joke, “It all started with a giant six-foot rabbit in a trench coat.” We both began laughing at the absurdity of his story starter, but I wasn’t frozen any more. We started adding on different, more ridiculous sentences to add to the story until I was able to come up with my own story for the project. I have always looked up to my dad and the way he could diffuse a heated or emotional situation, then bring everyone back to solve the problem. Humor and empathy are incredible ways to make connections and make a difference.
I am passionate about public school funding reform. Our public schools have been woefully underfunded by the state and are being even further drained by outdated cyber charter school funding formulas.
As a school board candidate, everyone in our township is my constituent: students, educators, families, and community members. My role is to represent all of their unique perspectives when making decisions for our school district.
Fostering an environment that values collaboration, professionalism, mutual respect, transparency, and honest feedback is the best strategy for recruiting and retaining the best faculty, staff, and administrators.
We need to eliminate barriers that prevent open, transparent conversations if we want to build relationships across our community. I will remain accessible and approachable to our families, our teachers, our students, and our community members.
It’s time to lean on our elected officials. They need to represent our schools and our community. We need cyber charter funding reform. We need the state and the federal government to increase their coverage for our most at-risk students. The average school district supports a special education population of about 13-15%- BTSD has a special education population of approximately 24%. This creates a large discrepancy in the outdated school funding formulas used by the state.
Showing up and being accessible and approachable is important to build meaningful relationships with parents in our district.
The ideal learning environment for students is one that supports various opportunities for learning and growth through strong teacher connections and communication.
A policy I’d like to see eliminated is the new superintendent policy that prohibits district employees from communicating with any school board member without including the superintendent. This limits the freedom of school employees to discuss concerns with the board, who directly oversees the superintendent. Unfortunately, this was something the current board majority agreed to in renewing the superintendent contract.
I believe that we already have wonderful support from within our schools and our local police to enhance the physical security of our students- but we also need a targeted focus on building supportive school communities. While we have begun working on increasing access to mental health and counseling, adding social and emotional learning, and implementing restorative practices- there is always more we can do. I would continue to focus time and resources on these programs- expanding them and making them more accessible to all students and families.
I have been endorsed by the Bensalem Democratic Organization.
The primary job of a school board member is to be a bridge that connects the school community and the local community when making decisions to support the educational environment for all students.
